Bangladesh secured their first Test win in the West Indies in 15 years, drawing the two-match series 1-1. On the fourth day of the second Test, Taijul Islam’s brilliant 5-50 helped bowl out West Indies for 185, giving Bangladesh a 101-run victory. Earlier, Bangladesh set a challenging target of 287, thanks to Jaker Ali’s career-best 91 which helped them reach 268 all out.
West Indies started their chase with confidence but fell apart after being 92-2, losing their last six wickets for just 42 runs. Kavem Hodge top-scored for the hosts with 55 while captain Kraigg Brathwaite contributed 43. However, they were unable to build significant partnerships and Bangladesh’s bowlers capitalized on the collapse.
This victory marked Bangladesh’s first Test win in the West Indies since a 2-0 series sweep in 2009. The win also made history for Bangladesh, as it marked the first time they had won three Test matches away from home in a calendar year. This follows their two victories over Pakistan in Rawalpindi in August and September.
This victory was significant for Bangladesh, not only for breaking their West Indies drought but also for showcasing their growing strength in overseas conditions, cementing their status as a competitive team on the global stage. With a strong all-round performance, Bangladesh heads home with renewed confidence after an impressive series draw.
