Chris Jordan Hat-Trick: A Barbados Tale of Triumph

Chris Jordan left the post-match news conference holding a small cardboard box containing the match ball he used to secure England’s first hat-trick in T20 internationals. This came after England’s dominant victory over the United States. “It feels really good, and I’ll cherish the moment,” Jordan told BBC Sport.

The hat-trick was special for the 35-year-old, who was born in Barbados and started playing cricket there before moving to London as a teenager. The Kensington Oval, where he first watched live cricket and met Brian Lara, holds special memories for him. “That’s when I first fell in love with the game,” Jordan said.

During the match, he bowled Ali Khan, trapped Nosthush Kenjige lbw and dismissed Saurabh Netravalkar, all with his family watching. “My family doesn’t get to travel and watch me play a lot of international cricket,” Jordan said. “So to do it in front of them is right up there [among the best moments of my career].”

His family, including his parents, sister, brother-in-law, and nephew, were all present. Jordan’s nephew had even called him that morning, asking him to take three wickets. This World Cup has been a homecoming for Jordan and teammate Jofra Archer, who was also born in Barbados but represents England.

Despite their move, locals have cheered them on, and groups of schoolchildren from their former schools attended England’s matches. Jordan attended Combermere School with Rihanna and future West Indies players; Aaron Jones captained the U.S. on Sunday. “Playing cricket together and against each other on the world stage is really special,” Jordan said.

Jordan’s England career seemed over when he was left out of the squad last December but he honed his skills in Australia’s Big Bash League. Known for his dependable fielding and calm demeanor, Jordan’s batting also earned him a spot back in the team.

Chris Jordan aims to help England reach the final and win the T20 World Cup trophy at the Kensington Oval.
