Darius Visser made history in a thrilling T20 World Cup regional qualifier on Tuesday by hitting six consecutive sixes in an over. Playing for Samoa against Vanuatu at the Garden Oval No 2 in Apia, Samoa, Visser faced seamer Nalin Nipiko in the 15th over and cleared the boundary six times. This over alone accumulated a record-breaking 39 runs, surpassing the previous men’s T20I record of 36 runs.

Yuvraj Singh set the former record in 2007 against England’s Stuart Broad. In the record-setting over, Visser faced three no-balls and one dot-ball amidst his six sixes, showcasing his exceptional batting prowess. He ended his innings with a spectacular 132 runs off 62 balls including 14 sixes and five fours and became the first Samoan to score an international century.

His explosive performance contributed significantly to Samoa’s total of 174 runs. In response, Darius Visser also played a crucial role in the field by taking a wicket and helping restrict Vanuatu to 164-9, securing a 10-run victory for Samoa. Other cricketers, such as West Indies’ Kieron Pollard and Nicholas Pooran, Nepal’s Dipendra Singh Airee, and India’s Rohit Sharma and Rinku Singh, previously achieved the record of 36 runs in an over.

In women’s T20 internationals, Chile’s Florencia Martinez set the record for the most runs conceded in a single over with 52 against Argentina in 2023. Argentina also set a T20 International record score of 427 in their massive win.
