England concluded their T20 World Cup preparations with a dominant seven-wicket victory over Pakistan at The Oval. England’s bowlers put on a stellar display, restricting Pakistan to 157 all out before their batsmen comfortably chased down the target in just 15.3 overs. Phil Salt and captain Jos Buttler set the tone for England’s chase with a brisk partnership of 82 runs in 6.2 overs, with Salt scoring 45 and Buttler contributing 39. Jonny Bairstow then guided England home with an unbeaten 28.

Mark Wood made an impactful return to the side, clocking impressive speeds and finishing with figures of 2-35 alongside Jofra Archer, who also starred with the ball. Pakistan’s openers, Babar Azam and Muhammad Rizwan, initially countered England’s attack but once Archer dismissed Babar, Pakistan’s innings unraveled. England’s spin duo of Adil Rashid and Liam Livingstone claimed crucial wickets while Livingstone’s outstanding catch to dismiss Usman Khan further dented Pakistan’s hopes.

Despite a spirited effort from Haris Rauf, who took 3-38, Pakistan faced a disappointing defeat. England’s comprehensive performance provides them with confidence heading into the T20 World Cup with their bowling attack showcasing both quality and fitness. The victory also signals a significant turnaround from England’s underwhelming performance in defending their 50-over World Cup title. It underscores their renewed focus and determination to excel in the T20 format, setting a promising tone for their campaign in the upcoming tournament.
