Glamorgan clinched their second One-Day Cup title in four years by defeating Somerset by 15 runs in a rain-affected match reduced to 20 overs. Sam Northeast anchored the Glamorgan innings, scoring an impressive 63 not out off 49 balls while Billy Root contributed 39 runs leading the team to a total of 186-7. Somerset began their chase cautiously but captain Sean Dickson provided a spark with a quickfire 44 off 20 balls.

Despite this, Glamorgan’s bowlers maintained their composure, restricting Somerset to 171-6. The match faced uncertainties due to the weather with the Trent Bridge pitch initially deemed unplayable after a washout on the first day. However, both teams agreed to play a shorter format, managing to start on time in front of a sparse crowd. Glamorgan faced early trouble at 8-2 after Alfie Ogborne struck twice in his first over.

Will Smale helped stabilize the innings with a rapid 28 runs off 14 balls. Northeast and Root then put on a crucial partnership boosting Glamorgan’s total significantly. In the later stages, Timm van der Gugten added 26 not out off just nine balls enhancing the team’s total. During Somerset’s reply, the loss of key wickets put them under pressure at 89-4.

Although Dickson and teenager Archie Vaughan tried to revive the innings, Dickson fell in the 18th over. Vaughan’s efforts came too late and Glamorgan sealed the victory. Northeast, named player of the match expressed joy at ending the season with a trophy while captain Kiran Carlson praised the team’s performance and resilience.

Somerset’s Dickson acknowledged Glamorgan’s superior bowling and reflected on the club’s competitive spirit throughout the season.
