India Dominates Bangladesh, Clinching Test Series 2-0
India dominated Bangladesh with a seven-wicket victory on the final day of a rain-affected second Test in Kanpur clinching a 2-0 series win. Moreover, the triumph stemmed from a stellar batting performance on the fourth day which shattered records and extended India’s streak to 18 consecutive home Test series wins — a record they already held.
Bangladesh quickly crumbled on the final day as Jasprit Bumrah, Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja each claimed three wickets, skittling out the visitors for just 146 runs before lunch. With only 95 runs needed for victory, India wasted no time. In particular, opener Yashasvi Jaiswal led the charge scoring his second half-century of the match with a confident 51.
India comfortably chased down the target despite two-and-a-half days lost to rain. Consequently, this victory not only solidified India’s position at the top of the World Test Championship standings but also gave them an eight-point lead over Australia. On the fourth day, India set a record as the fastest team to reach milestones of 50, 100, 150, 200 and 250 runs in Test cricket.
Furthermore, the series marked India’s first under the leadership of their new head coach, former opener Gautam Gambhir. Now, with the Test series complete, both teams will turn their attention to the upcoming three-match T20 series which begins on Sunday in Gwalior.
