Jasprit Bumrah will miss India’s upcoming T20 series against England but Mohammed Shami returns after a year-long injury absence. India will host England for a five-match T20 series from January 22 to February 2, followed by a three-match one-day international series. Bumrah, 31, is sidelined after suffering back spasms during India’s recent fifth Test against Australia.
He couldn’t bowl in the second innings and India won the match, regaining the Border-Gavaskar Trophy with a 3-1 series victory. Jasprit Bumrah’s injury will keep him out of the upcoming series against England. Shami, 34, hasn’t played for India since their defeat in the 2023 World Cup final to Australia.
He underwent ankle surgery and has dealt with knee problems but he returns to the national squad for the T20 series. Wicketkeeper Rishabh Pant will miss the 15-man T20 squad, likely due to rest after playing in all five Tests in Australia. Additionally, Test players Yashasvi Jaiswal and Shubman Gill won’t feature in the T20 squad.
Dhruv Jurel and Sanju Samson will serve as wicketkeeping options for the series against England. Suryakumar Yadav will captain the Indian team for the T20 series. India has yet to announce the squad for the ODI series that follows or the Champions Trophy later in the year.
