Jimmy Anderson Eyes IPL Spot After Retirement

Jimmy Anderson, England’s all-time leading wicket-taker has put himself forward for selection in the Indian Premier League (IPL), just four months after retiring from international cricket. At 42, Anderson has never participated in the IPL but has set his base price at £114,000 for the upcoming mega auction later this month.

Despite not playing any Twenty20 cricket for the past 10 years, Anderson expressed his desire to explore the franchise circuit after his final Test appearance against Sri Lanka in June before retiring completely from the sport. Anderson is not the only English cricketer hoping for a fresh opportunity in the IPL.

Notably, players like Jos Buttler and Sam Curran, who have played prominent roles in the tournament in the past will also enter the auction. Buttler, the 2021 IPL MVP, and Curran, who fetched a record £1.85 million in 2022, are among 50 English players aiming to find new teams.

However, England Test captain Ben Stokes has opted out of the IPL while Jofra Archer, who is making a comeback from injury has entered the fray. Since retiring, Anderson has remained closely involved with English cricket, mentoring young fast bowlers.

Reflecting on his post-retirement role, he said, “I’ve really enjoyed still being around the group.” Anderson emphasized how his experience as a senior bowler has helped him support the new generation of fast bowlers, both on and off the field.

Even though he no longer plays, Jimmy Anderson continues to find satisfaction in contributing to England’s success, particularly in Test matches.
