Josh Hull has ruled himself out of England’s tour of Pakistan due to a quad injury. The 20-year-old left-armer made his Test debut against Sri Lanka earlier this month claiming three wickets in the third Test at The Oval. Despite his promising start, Hull will miss the upcoming limited-overs series against Australia and the team will not replace him in the squad.
Hull was one of six specialist fast bowlers included in England’s 17-man squad but now he joins Mark Wood, Josh Tongue and Dillon Pennington on the sidelines. Meanwhile, Jamie Overton and Jofra Archer focus solely on white-ball cricket. England faces a more complicated pace bowling situation due to uncertainty about captain Ben Stokes’ fitness to bowl.
Stokes has remained inactive since early August because of a hamstring injury. Although England’s management stated he is “on track” for the series, Stokes expressed doubts about his readiness to bowl in the first Test during a conversation with Sky Sports. Additionally, England must consider Olly Stone’s availability as he plans to return from Pakistan between the first and second Tests for his wedding.
England will travel to Pakistan on Tuesday with the first Test set to take place in Multan starting on October 7. As the team prepares for the tour, they will need to adapt to these injury setbacks and make strategic decisions about their bowling lineup to ensure a competitive performance against Pakistan.
