Justin Langer Appointed Head Coach of London Spirit
Justin Langer the former Australia opener, has accepted the role of head coach for London Spirit in the upcoming season of The Hundred. The 54-year-old replaces Trevor Bayliss, who departed after a three-year tenure with the franchise. Langer a legendary player with 105 Test caps for Australia, previously served as head coach of the national team from 2018 to 2022, leading them to two Ashes victories and a T20 World Cup title in 2021.
Langer expressed his excitement about the new role, saying, “I’m thrilled to be appointed to this role with London Spirit and excited to experience The Hundred. I look forward to working with such a talented group of players and coaches.” Spirit will hope Justin Langer can reverse their fortunes after a challenging two seasons. Under Bayliss’ leadership, Spirit reached the Eliminator in his first year but they have since finished second-bottom and bottom in the standings, winning just three out of 16 games.
Langer, who has coached Perth Scorchers in the Big Bash and currently serves as head coach of Lucknow Super Giants in the Indian Premier League, brings significant experience to the role. His appointment also marks his return to Lord’s where he played for Middlesex between 1998 and 2000. Spirit fans will hope Langer’s leadership and expertise will help them improve their performance and make a stronger push in The Hundred this year.
