Rahul Dravid announces his decision to step down as India's coach after the T20 World Cup, declining to reapply for the position.

Rahul Dravid, India’s coach, will step down when his contract expires after the T20 World Cup. The former batter has announced that he will not reapply for the position, following the advertisement by the governing body, the BCCI, last month. In 2021, the 51-year-old Rahul Dravid took over from Ravi Shastri. Under his guidance, India reached the finals of the World Test Championship and the 50-over World Cup last year but both ended in losses to Australia. Despite expressing his love for the job, Dravid cited the demanding schedule and his current life stage as reasons for not seeking reapplication.

Under Dravid’s leadership, India also reached the semi-finals of the 2022 T20 World Cup, where they were defeated by eventual champions England. However, India has not secured a global tournament victory since the 2013 Champions Trophy. Dravid acknowledged India’s consistent performance but highlighted the need to excel in crucial knockout games. Looking ahead, he expressed hope for India to perform well in the upcoming tournaments and clinch victories when it matters the most.

India’s quest for the T20 World Cup title commences with their opener against Ireland in New York on Wednesday, as they aim to replicate their success from the inaugural edition in 2007.
