Ravichandran Ashwin starred with both bat and ball as India secured a commanding 280-run victory over Bangladesh in the first Test in Chennai. On day four, Ashwin delivered a remarkable performance taking six wickets for 88 runs in Bangladesh’s second innings, helping to dismiss them early in the day. Bangladesh started the final day at 158-4 requiring an improbable 515 runs to win.
However, they struggled against India’s bowling attack, losing their last six wickets for just 76 runs. Ashwin’s outstanding effort on the field came after he scored 116 runs in India’s first innings marking the third time in his Test career that he has scored a century and claimed five or more wickets in the same match. His previous achievements of this nature were against the West Indies.
Ravindra Jadeja also played a key role taking three wickets while Bangladesh’s captain Najmul Hossain Shanto emerged as the top scorer for the visitors with a resilient 82 runs before Jadeja dismissed him. With this victory, India leads the two-match Test series 1-0 setting the stage for the second Test which will commence on Friday in Kanpur.
This match not only showcased Ravichandran Ashwin’s all-round abilities but also emphasized India’s dominance in the series as they look to secure another win against Bangladesh.
