Eddie Dunbar Triumphs on Stage 20

Eddie Dunbar claimed victory on stage 20 of the Vuelta a España while Primoz Roglic all but secured overall victory in the race. Dunbar, representing Team Jayco Alula, made a decisive move with about 5 kilometers remaining to overtake leader Pavel Sivakov on the final climb of the stage. The Irish rider caught Sivakov with around 3 kilometers to go and then pulled ahead to win the stage by seven seconds.

Movistar’s Enric Mas finished second and Roglic, riding for Red Bull – Bora-Hansgrohe took third, crossing the line three seconds behind Mas on the 172-kilometer route from Villarcayo to Picon Blanco. Roglic’s performance allowed him to extend his lead in the general classification finishing four seconds ahead of Ben O’Connor from Decathlon-AG2R-La Mondiale. Roglic now holds a commanding lead of two minutes and two seconds in the overall standings.

Dunbar expressed satisfaction with his win, noting that the climb’s familiarity helped him pace himself effectively. He also reflected on his previous victory on stage 11, saying this win felt particularly sweet. With only the final 24.6-kilometer time trial in Madrid remaining, Roglic is almost certain to secure his fourth Vuelta title, barring any accidents.

The stage 20 results showed Dunbar’s strong performance with Enric Mas and Primoz Roglic rounding out the top three. The general classification standings confirm Roglic’s dominant position with significant gaps to his closest rivals.
