Ethan Hayter Calls for Changes at Ineos

Ethan Hayter has called on Ineos chief Sir Jim Ratcliffe to “make changes” as he prepares to leave the team. The 72-year-old Ratcliffe, who recently became a co-owner of Manchester United has faced criticism for his decisions in football, particularly for choosing not to dismiss manager Erik ten Hag despite the club’s worst-ever start to a Premier League season.

Other controversial moves by United’s leadership include ending Sir Alex Ferguson’s £2 million-a-year ambassadorial role, laying off 250 staff and canceling the Christmas party. Ineos has also struggled since taking over football operations particularly in cycling. Once known as Team Sky which dominated the Tour de France by winning six titles in seven years from 2012 to 2018, the team has seen a decline in performance.

Egan Bernal’s victory in 2019 remains their only overall win at the prestigious event under Ineos management. Currently, they sit seventh in the UCI World Rankings and have experienced a difficult year with few successes. Ethan Hayter an Olympic silver medallist has been viewed as one of Ineos’ promising young talents since he joined in 2020.

However, after a challenging season, he has announced his decision to leave the team to join Soudal Quick-Step in 2025. After securing a silver medal in the team pursuit at the world championships, he candidly addressed the issues at Ineos, stating, “I don’t know what’s going on, to be honest. I’ve had a tricky year working with them, and once I was leaving, it became even trickier. I wish them all the best for next year, but they could do with a couple of changes.”
