Pfeiffer Georgi Out of Tour de France Femmes Due to Injury

Pfeiffer Georgi has had to abandon the Tour de France Femmes after crashing on stage five and suffering serious injuries. The 23-year-old rider, competing for DSM-Firmenich PostNL, broke her hand and fractured her neck in a mass pile-up with 6.3 kilometers remaining. Her team confirmed she will need to rest for at least four weeks but will avoid surgery.

Team coach Albert Timmer expressed the team’s disappointment, emphasizing Georgi’s vital role both on and off the bike. Pfeiffer Georgi, who finished fifth in the women’s road race at the Paris 2024 Olympics was positioned in 45th place in the general classification before her crash. Team doctor Camiel Aldershof reported that the fractures were serious but did not require surgical intervention.

Georgi’s absence will significantly impact DSM-Firmenich PostNL, as they will miss her leadership and contributions. On stage six of the Tour de France Femmes, France’s Cedrine Kerbaol won by riding solo and outpacing the peloton. Kerbaol’s victory moved her into second place in the general classification, just 16 seconds behind the overall leader Katarzyna Niewiadoma from Poland.

Marianne Vos finished second, 21 seconds behind and Germany’s Liane Lippert came third. Kerbaol’s win also pushed her past American Kristen Faulkner and Dutch cyclist Puck Pieterse. The penultimate stage on Saturday will take the riders to the Alps, covering a 166.4-kilometer route from Champagnole to Le Grand-Bornand.
