Pfeiffer Georgi Ready to Bounce Back After Tour Crash Injury

Pfeiffer Georgi, the 23-year-old British road champion, has opened up about her recovery after a serious crash at the Tour de France Femmes in August where she fractured her neck and hand. Georgi involved in a mass crash on stage 5, spent 10 weeks in a neck brace and only returned to riding outdoors last week. Despite the severity of the accident, Georgi has not watched footage of the crash, saying she didn’t want to relive it.

She recalls the unexpected moment when she couldn’t brake in time which caused her to flip over and land on her head. This was Georgi’s second major injury after fracturing a vertebra in 2020 which forced her to learn how to walk again. She described the pain from the latest crash as familiar, initially suspecting a hand fracture before realizing her neck might also be broken.

The crash ended what she considered her best season which included winning the national road title, finishing fifth in the Olympics and claiming third at Paris-Roubaix. Despite the setback, Georgi reframed her situation positively focusing on the success she had already achieved.

The recovery process has been long with Georgi spending months in a cast and neck brace while dealing with the mental toll of the injury. She is seeking psychological support to help build confidence and relaxation techniques as she finds the psychological impact of the crashes the hardest part of her recovery.

Reflecting on her performances, Pfeiffer Georgi highlighted her top results of the year, including her third-place finish at Paris-Roubaix and a strong showing at the Olympics where she finished fifth. Looking ahead, Georgi aims for more success in one-day races like Paris-Roubaix and Gent-Wevelgem next season.
