Primoz Roglic Seals Thrilling Dauphine Win by Eight Seconds

Primoz Roglic secured his second title in three years in a thrilling finale to the Criterium du Dauphine, holding on by a mere eight seconds. Despite Primoz Roglic’s 62-second lead over Matteo Jorgenson at the start of the final stage, the American emerged as a formidable challenger during the decisive climb, intensifying the competition. His performance added suspense to the race’s conclusion, keeping fans on the edge of their seats until the very end. With just 5.5km remaining, Spain’s Carlos Rodriguez launched an attack, closely followed by Canada’s Derek Gee and Jorgenson.

Their attempt to erase Roglic’s lead kept the tension high until the end. Ultimately, Rodriguez claimed the stage win for Ineos Grenadiers, with Roglic doing enough to secure overall victory. Earlier in the 160.6km mountain stage, Primoz Roglic seemed poised for a comfortable day until Rodriguez, Jorgenson, and Gee made their move. Jorgenson, aware of the bonus seconds at stake, aimed to seize the Dauphine title if he could cross the line with a significant lead over Roglic. Despite the breakaway trio’s efforts, Roglic held his ground securing victory for his new team, Bora–Hansgrohe.

Roglic’s triumph sets the stage for a potential bid for his first Tour de France title, beginning on June 29. Reflecting on his victory, Roglic emphasized the significance of the moment and his determination to savor the win.
