Tadej Pogacar delivered a remarkable performance at the 2024 Tour de France, clinching both the Tour de France and Giro d’Italia titles, a feat not achieved since Marco Pantani in 1998. Pogacar, racing for UAE Team Emirates, sealed his Tour victory with a triumphant finish in the stage 21 time trial in Nice, where he bested Jonas Vingegaard by 63 seconds.

The Slovenian’s victory was further underscored by his sixth stage win in the Tour and an overall margin of 6 minutes and 17 seconds over Vingegaard, securing his third Tour title. This year’s Tour featured a historic finale as the race concluded outside Paris for the first time since 1903. Pogacar’s dominant performance included a significant stage win on Plateau de Beille, extending his lead and setting the stage for his eventual triumph.

Despite Vingegaard’s efforts, including recovering from a broken collarbone and ribs, he couldn’t match Pogacar’s exceptional pace. In addition to Pogacar’s achievements, sprinter Biniam Girmay made history by becoming the first Black African rider to win the Tour de France points classification. Girmay, who is Eritrean, also recorded three stage victories, showcasing his impressive sprinting abilities.

The King of the Mountains title went to Richard Carapaz, while Belgian Remco Evenepoel secured the white jersey as the best under-25 rider. Pogacar’s dominance was evident as he spent 19 days in yellow and matched his Giro d’Italia success. Tadej Pogacar has hinted at not competing in the Vuelta a España, focusing instead on the Paris Olympics.
