Luke Humphries and Michael Smith Win World Cup of Darts Final

Luke Humphries, the current world champion, and Michael Smith, who claimed the 2023 world title, delivered a stellar performance as England clinched victory in the World Cup of Darts with a commanding 10-6 triumph over Austria in the final held in Stuttgart. They defeated Rowby-John Rodriguez and Mensur Suljovic of Austria in a thrilling contest.

This win marks England’s fifth World Cup of Darts title since the tournament’s establishment in 2010, and notably, their first victory since 2016. Earlier in the competition, defending champions Wales were surprisingly eliminated in the second round by Croatia.

In the final, England swiftly raced to a 5-1 lead against Austria, only to face a resilient comeback that narrowed the gap to 6-4. However, Humphries, ranked number one in the world, demonstrated remarkable consistency with four checkouts over 100 points. Smith, ranked third globally, sealed the decisive victory with a successful double eight.

Reflecting on their achievement, Luke Humphries expressed immense satisfaction: “We had a strong belief in our ability to win this tournament, and after our initial game, everything clicked perfectly.” He likened the thrill of victory to winning the World Championship and expressed hope for future opportunities to defend their title as champions.

The victory solidifies England’s status as a dominant force in darts, showcasing their skill and teamwork on an international stage.
