Catriona Matthew to Captain GB&I in 2026 Curtis Cup
Catriona Matthew will once again captain Great Britain & Ireland (GB&I) in the 2026 Curtis Cup where they will face the United States at Bel-Air Country Club in Los Angeles. Matthew led GB&I to a historic 10½-9½ victory over the US at Sunningdale in September securing their first Curtis Cup win since 2016. The two-time Solheim Cup-winning captain aims to deliver back-to-back victories in the 44th edition of the event, set for June 12-14, 2026.
As a player, the Scottish golfer won the Curtis Cup in 1992 and helped retain it in 1994, adding to her decorated career that includes one major title, the 2009 Women’s British Open. Matthew succeeded Elaine Ratcliffe as captain before this year’s match and her leadership contributed to GB&I’s triumph. Matthew ranked the 2024 win among her top achievements, alongside her Solheim Cup victories.
Reflecting on the challenge of playing away from home, she expressed excitement about the opportunity to defend the title. Catriona Matthew is focused on building a motivated and high-performing team to retain the prestigious trophy at the 2026 Curtis Cup. With her experience as both a player and captain, Matthew will continue to lead GB&I towards success. She aims to bring another victory home in what promises to be a thrilling contest against the United States.
