Ewen Ferguson Wins BMW International Open
Ewen Ferguson clinched victory at the BMW International Open in Munich, Germany, securing a spot at the upcoming Open Championship at Royal Troon with a two-stroke win. The 28-year-old Scotsman captured his third DP World Tour title, his first since 2022, by carding a final round of 68, finishing at 18 under par. Jordan Smith of England and David Micheluzzi of Australia tied for second place sharing the runner-up position with Ferguson’s joint overnight leader.
Ferguson’s compatriot Connor Syme also had a strong showing, securing a top-five finish tied for fourth at 14 under par, alongside England’s Matthew Southgate. Notably, Ferguson’s victory marks a significant achievement as the first Scottish player to win a DP World Tour event since Robert MacIntyre’s Italian Open triumph in 2022. His win also earns him a coveted place in the Open Championship, scheduled from July 18-21 on the Ayrshire coast, having qualified as one of the top five players in the Race to Dubai rankings not already exempt.
Reflecting on his triumph, Ferguson expressed disbelief and joy, particularly emphasizing the support and motivation from his family throughout the tournament. “I can’t believe it,” Ferguson told Sky Sports. “In those last four holes, it felt surreal, like I was living in a dream. I was hitting the ball so well, and each shot was dedicated to my family at home.”
Securing exemption into the Open Championship represents a significant milestone for Ewen Ferguson, alleviating pressure and fueling excitement for upcoming events, including the Scottish Open. His performance underscores his readiness and ambition for the challenges ahead on the international golfing stage.
