Jeffrey Guan recently shared that he lost sight in his left eye after a golf ball struck him during a pro-am tournament in New South Wales last month. The incident occurred just a week after the 20-year-old made his PGA Tour debut at the Procore Championship in California where he competed alongside major players like Ryder Cup team members Wyndham Clark and Max Homa.
Guan described how the ball hit him while he turned to his golf bag after taking a shot, feeling immediate pain and ringing in his head before collapsing. Medical teams rushed him to the hospital where he initially underwent surgery in New South Wales before transferring to Sydney for a second operation. Despite the doctors’ efforts, they informed Guan that he likely wouldn’t regain vision in his injured eye.
This injury has tested Guan both emotionally and physically, as he spent two weeks in intensive care and continues to receive ongoing treatment. Speaking publicly for the first time since the injury, Guan revealed the depth of his ordeal, calling it the “toughest four weeks” of his life. Yet, he voiced his determination to continue his professional golf career, showing remarkable resilience in facing this unexpected setback.
“As a kid, I always showed perseverance and persistence,” Guan stated. “I will keep working hard and do my best to achieve my dream. I will be back.” Guan has already built a strong foundation in the sport, twice winning the Australian Junior Amateur title—a distinction he shares with Australian champions like Adam Scott, Jason Day and Cameron Smith.
He recently signed with sports agency Sportfive which represents top players such as former world number one Jon Rahm. Although the injury has disrupted his career, Jeffrey Guan remains committed to reaching the elite level of the game once again.
