Jon Rahm Withdraws from US Open Due to Foot Injury

Jon Rahm withdrew from this week’s 124th US Open at Pinehurst due to a foot injury. The Spaniard, who claimed the title in 2021, exited after six holes in the second round of LIV Houston on Saturday. He withdrew because of an infection in his left foot. He arrived at the North Carolina course on Tuesday, hoping to recover in time. However, Jon Rahm later announced on social media, “After consulting with numerous doctors and my team, I have decided it is best for my long-term health. I will withdraw from this week’s US Open Championship. To say I’m disappointed is a massive understatement.”

Earlier on Tuesday, during a news conference, Rahm hinted at his uncertain participation. He mentioned that his foot was “a concern” and that he did not know if it would heal in time. “It is doing better, but the pain is high,” the 29-year-old added. “I have a little hole between my pinky toe and the next one, and it became infected. I received a shot to numb the pain before the second round in Houston, but it only lasted two holes instead of the entire round. Now, I have the infection under control, but there’s still swelling and pain.”

In his efforts to aid recovery, Rahm walked out in a shoe and a flip-flop to keep the affected area dry. However, he acknowledges the limitations of the human body, expressing acceptance that healing takes time. This glimpse into his physical challenges sheds light on the demanding nature of professional sports and the resilience required to navigate setbacks.
