Lexi Thompson to Retire from Pro Golf in 2024

Lexi Thompson, aged 29, has announced her retirement from professional golf at the end of the 2024 LPGA Tour season. Since turning pro in 2010, she has claimed victory 15 times including her sole major title at the 2014 Kraft Nabisco Championship, now known as the Chevron Championship. Notably, she represented the United States in six Solheim Cups and two Olympic Games and at just 12 years old, she became the youngest qualifier for the US Women’s Open in 2007.

In an Instagram statement, Thompson expressed her bittersweet farewell, noting that while it’s never easy to say goodbye, she feels it’s the right time. Despite her impending retirement, she remains focused on achieving her remaining goals for the year. Known for her aggressive playing style and gracious demeanor with fans, Lexi Thompson made history as the youngest winner on the LPGA Tour at 16 years old.  While her world ranking has dipped to 54 due to a hand injury, she remains determined to represent the United States at the Solheim Cup.
