Louisville Police Probe Protocol Breach in Scheffler Arrest

Louisville police will investigate whether they followed correct protocols during the arrest of world number one golfer Scottie Scheffler at the US PGA Championship. Scheffler’s attempt to enter Valhalla Golf Club amidst traffic on May 17 resulted in his detention. Scheffler’s attempt to enter Valhalla Golf Club amidst traffic led to his detention, resulting in a rescheduled arraignment. Additionally, he refutes charges of second-degree assault, third-degree criminal mischief, reckless driving and disregarding traffic signals.

Subsequent revelations indicate that arresting officer Bryan Gillis failed to activate his bodycam video before detaining Scheffler, despite standard operating procedures. Louisville chief of police, Jacquelyn Gwinn-Villaroel, announced that an ongoing internal investigation will address any policy violations. Mayor Craig Greenberg emphasized that action would be taken if protocols were not followed.

A fatal accident near the course caused heavy traffic, resulting in an 80-minute delay for the event on Friday. Despite not being involved in the accident, Scheffler reportedly tried to bypass the scene before police intervened. Upon release, Scheffler called it a “big misunderstanding,” with his lawyer citing eyewitnesses for his innocence.

Videos depicting Scheffler handcuffed and escorted into a police car outside the Louisville course circulated online. An officer allegedly dragged Scheffler to the ground, injuring his wrist and knee, per a police report.
