Matt Wallace clinched the European Masters title in Switzerland with a nerve-wracking play-off victory over Spain’s Alfredo Garcia-Heredia. Wallace, who began the final day with a four-shot advantage, found himself tied with Garcia-Heredia after a challenging round. Despite the pressure, Wallace secured the win with a decisive birdie on the 18th hole of the play-off, marking his first DP World Tour title in six years and his fifth overall.

Reflecting on the victory, Matt Wallace expressed his emotional relief, noting the parallels to his loss in the 2022 tournament at Crans-sur-Sierre, where he fell in a play-off to Thriston Lawrence. “It brought back memories of when I lost two years ago,” Wallace said. “I wasn’t focused then, but I was focused today. I’m buzzing. I stuck at it.”

His final round performance included a crucial birdie at the last hole that allowed him to match Garcia-Heredia’s score of 11 under par, following Garcia-Heredia’s impressive four-under 66. England’s Andrew ‘Beef’ Johnston also had a significant achievement, finishing third with a score of 10 under par after carding a 66.

Johnston, who has struggled with injuries and form in recent years, described his relief and joy at the result, saying, “There’s a lot of relief—it’s been a tough couple of years.” Wallace’s triumph at the European Masters not only ended a lengthy title drought but also demonstrated his resilience and focus under pressure, marking a significant comeback in his career.
