Na-Rin An Tops Leaderboard at CME Group Tour Championship
Na-Rin An of South Korea holds a slim one-shot lead after the first round of the CME Group Tour Championship in Florida. An, who carded an impressive bogey-free 64 made eight birdies to take the lead at the season-ending LPGA event at Tiburon Golf Club where the winner will earn $4 million in prize money. American Angel Yin sits just one stroke behind after bouncing back from early bogeys at the second and fourth holes.
Yin turned the round around with three birdies before the turn and then surged ahead with four birdies in five holes to start the back nine. She sealed her round with an eagle on the 17th, positioning herself in strong contention. Two other Americans, Allisen Corpuz and Marina Alex are tied at six under, one stroke behind Yin. Among a group of players at five under is New Zealand’s Women’s Open champion Lydia Ko.
Ireland’s Leona Maguire is still in touch with the leaders, shooting a three-under 69 with four birdies. Meanwhile, USA’s world number one, Nelly Korda had a slow start, finishing the day at even par. England’s Charley Hull, fresh off her battle at The Annika last weekend struggled in her opening round, posting a one-over 73 after two bogeys and a double bogey.
As the tournament continues, Na-Rin An will look to extend her lead with several top players including Yin, Corpuz and Ko, hot on her heels as they aim for the top prize. The competition remains wide open with many contenders still in striking distance.
