Nelly Korda Wins LPGA Annika Title After Late Birdie Streak
Nelly Korda secured her third LPGA Annika title with a stunning comeback over England’s Charley Hull on the final day at Pelican Golf Club in Florida. The world number one started the day one shot behind Hull, who had led the tournament since Thursday’s opening round. Named in honor of Sweden’s Annika Sorenstam, the event saw Korda make a remarkable charge on the back nine. Korda went on a birdie streak, sinking five consecutive birdies from the 11th to the 15th hole, putting her two strokes ahead of Hull with just three holes remaining.
Despite a shaky start with three bogeys on the front nine, Korda held steady finishing with a round of 67 and a 14-under total to claim the victory. Hull, who was aiming for back-to-back titles, faltered with a dropped shot on the 17th hole which ultimately ended her hopes of victory. She finished in a tie for second with China’s Weiwei Zhang and South Korea’s Jin Hee Im both at 11 under after carding a 71.
This victory marked Korda’s seventh title of the year, a remarkable achievement considering she had been sidelined since September with a neck injury. Reflecting on her performance, Korda expressed her excitement at being back in action, saying, “After taking time off for an injury, it feels great to be back. There’s nothing like being in contention on the back nine, feeling that adrenaline.”
Nelly Korda’s remarkable comeback secured her place at the top, adding another prestigious win to her already impressive 2024 season.
