Nick Dunlap, at just 20 years old has made history by becoming the first player to win both PGA Tour events as a professional and an amateur within the same year. His latest triumph came at the Barracuda Championship in California where he outperformed fellow American Vince Whaley using a Stableford points-based scoring system. Dunlap’s performance was stellar, featuring a bogey-free final round of nine-under 62 that included seven birdies and an eagle.

This round earned him 19 points and a two-point victory at Tahoe Mountain Club. Earlier in the year, Dunlap achieved another milestone by winning the American Express Championship as an amateur making him the first since Phil Mickelson in 1991 to secure a PGA Tour title while still an amateur. Following his victory at the American Express, Dunlap turned professional and secured a two-year exemption on the PGA Tour.

This achievement also granted him entry into major tournaments like the Masters, US PGA Championship, and the Players Championship. Reflecting on his remarkable achievement, Dunlap expressed surprise and honor at his unique double. Despite the challenges and a dip in confidence following his earlier win, he managed to reclaim his form and secure his second major victory.

His latest win has earned him over £550,000 and solidified his status as a rising star in golf. Nick Dunlap’s recent success follows in the footsteps of Tiger Woods becoming the second player to win both the US Junior Amateur and US Amateur titles in the same year. This feat further underscores Dunlap’s exceptional talent and potential in the sport.
