PGA Tour stars Rory McIlroy and Scottie Scheffler will face LIV Golf’s Bryson DeChambeau and Brooks Koepka in a televised match later this year, reports confirm. This highly anticipated showdown will take place in Las Vegas this December. As the PGA Tour and Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund (PIF) which funds LIV Golf continue negotiating a potential merger to resolve the ongoing divide in professional golf, this match creates a rare opportunity for top players from both tours to compete head-to-head outside of major championships.
McIlroy, currently ranked third in the world, expressed his excitement about the match. “I’m thrilled to partner with Scottie in what promises to be an exciting duel against Bryson and Brooks in Vegas this December,” he told Golfweek. “This isn’t just a contest between some of golf’s major champions, it’s an event designed to energize the fans.”
Scheffler, the reigning Masters champion holds the world number one ranking while DeChambeau and Koepka boast a combined seven major titles. The match will likely generate significant fan interest, especially since opportunities to see players from both the PGA and LIV Golf tours compete against each other have remained limited since LIV’s formation in 2022.
PGA Tour commissioner Jay Monahan banned LIV players from participating in PGA Tour events widening the gap between the two organizations. However, the PGA Tour clarified that it does not affiliate with this event, confirming the match as a separate venture. This event will provide golf fans with a thrilling spectacle, bringing together some of the sport’s biggest names for an exciting goodwill showdown.
