Scottie Scheffler capped a dominant 2024 season by securing a six-shot victory at the Hero World Challenge with a sensational nine-under 63. The world number one, who won both the Masters and Olympic gold earlier in the year, finished the event at 25 under par earning his record-equalling ninth title of the season. This victory marked an impressive 42.9% win rate in the 21 tournaments he played in 2024.
After the win, Scheffler expressed satisfaction with his performance, noting that he had played a solid round of golf. “It feels nice to take a little break and come back and continue to play some pretty solid golf,” he said. His performance also tied him with Tiger Woods (2000) and Vijay Singh (2004) for the most wins in a single season since 1950, though the Hero World Challenge and the Olympics are not part of the PGA Tour.
Scheffler, who hadn’t played in a strokeplay event since his PGA Tour Championship win in August, made history by becoming just the third player to win back-to-back Hero World Challenge titles, joining Woods (2006-2007) and Viktor Hovland (2021-2022). He started strong, birdieing three of the first four holes and four of the last six. South Korea’s Tom Kim finished second with a 68 while overnight leader Justin Thomas ended in third after a one-under 71.
Thomas struggled with bogeys early on allowing Scottie Scheffler to take control. Reflecting on his year, Scheffler called it “surreal” and expressed gratitude for the incredible achievements.
