Scottie Scheffler cemented his position as the world’s top golfer with a commanding win at the season-ending Tour Championship in Atlanta. This victory caps an extraordinary 2024 for the American, who has claimed an Olympic gold medal, his second Masters title, and became the first player to win back-to-back Players Championships. He is also the first golfer since Tiger Woods in 2007 to win seven PGA Tour events in a single season.

Scheffler, who began the final round with a five-shot lead over Collin Morikawa, shot a four-under 67 to finish at 30 under par, securing the title by four strokes and earning $25 million from the $100 million prize fund. Morikawa, who shot a 66, finished in second place while Sahith Theegala took third with a 64, finishing 24 under. Starting the tournament on 10 under par due to his FedEx Cup standings lead, Scheffler maintained his advantage through the first three rounds.

Despite a couple of bogeys on the seventh and eighth holes in the final round, which allowed Morikawa to close the gap to two shots, Scottie Scheffler quickly rebounded. A birdie on the ninth, followed by consecutive birdies on the 10th and 11th holes, restored his lead. A 15-foot eagle putt on the 14th further secured his victory, and he calmly parred the remaining holes to claim his first FedEx Cup title.

Scheffler’s performance this season has earned him a record $54 million in official earnings, breaking the PGA Tour record for the third consecutive season. Off the course, Scheffler became a father for the first time in May and faced legal challenges, though all charges were eventually dropped. Rory McIlroy was the best-performing UK golfer, finishing joint ninth while Scotland’s Robert MacIntyre and England’s Tommy Fleetwood also had strong finishes.
