Scottie Scheffler Eyes January Return After Hand Injury

Scottie Scheffler the world number one will skip the first two weeks of the 2025 PGA Tour season after undergoing hand surgery following a Christmas Day accident. The 28-year-old American injured his right palm when a glass broke while he prepared Christmas dinner, puncturing his hand and embedding small glass fragments that surgeons removed. Scheffler’s manager, Blake Smith announced the news in a statement on Friday, explaining that doctors expect the golfer to fully recover in three to four weeks.

As a result, Scheffler has decided to withdraw from The Sentry, the season-opening event in Hawaii and he will also skip the Sony Open. He plans to return to competition at The American Express Championship in California scheduled for January 16-19. Scheffler continues to build on a stellar career as he earned his third consecutive PGA Tour Player of the Year title in 2024. During the season, he captured nine titles including repeat victories at The Players Championship and The Masters.

He also added an Olympic gold medal in Paris to his accomplishments and claimed his first FedEx Cup with a victory at the Tour Championship. Scheffler’s year, though triumphant included some unexpected drama. Ahead of the second round of the US PGA Championship at Valhalla Golf Club, authorities briefly detained him, forcing him to warm up for his round in a jail cell.

The charges were ultimately dropped, allowing him to resume his season without further issues. Scottie Scheffler’s decision to miss the opening tournaments creates a brief pause in his otherwise remarkable career. Fans eagerly await his return at The American Express where he aims to continue his success and achieve even greater milestones in 2025.
