Scottie Scheffler has matched Tiger Woods by becoming only the second golfer to win the PGA Tour Player of the Year award for three consecutive seasons. The American world number one secured his third Jack Nicklaus Award after earning an overwhelming 91% of the vote from his fellow players. Scheffler’s stellar season included seven tournament wins, highlighted by his second Masters triumph at Augusta National in April. His feat of seven titles in a single season is the first since Woods achieved the milestone in 2007.
While Rory McIlroy has also won the award three times, only Woods and Scheffler have achieved the rare distinction of winning it three years in a row. Woods, now 48 has claimed the award 11 times in his career, including a record five consecutive wins from 1999 to 2003 followed by another three-peat from 2005 to 2007. After receiving the award, Scheffler, 28, downplayed comparisons to Woods, stating, “There’s really only one Tiger—that’s just kind of it.”
Although his Masters victory was a significant highlight, Scottie Scheffler revealed that his best golf came during his gold medal win at the Paris Olympics. Reflecting on that performance, he said, “The back nine at the Olympics sticks out to me the most. The way Teddy (caddie Teddy Scott) and I finished off that tournament was pretty cool.”
Scheffler’s achievements solidify his place among the greats of the game with his dominance on the PGA Tour drawing admiration from peers and fans alike. His ability to maintain consistency and excel under pressure has earned him comparisons to Woods even as he remains humble about the parallel.
