Sergio Garcia Rejoins DP World Tour, Eyes 2025 Ryder Cup

Sergio Garcia has rejoined the DP World Tour with the goal of making a record-equalling 11th Ryder Cup appearance in 2025. The 44-year-old Spaniard, who holds the record for most Ryder Cup points aims to match the European record of 11 appearances set by Lee Westwood and Sir Nick Faldo. However, to achieve this, Garcia had to settle fines exceeding €1 million imposed on him for competing in LIV Golf events without permission along with serving a suspension.

Garcia resigned from the DP World Tour in May 2023 after an arbitration panel upheld the tour’s right to impose fines and suspensions on players who joined LIV Golf. At that time, he was the only player among 17 who had not paid his fine or indicated any intention to do so. Despite this, Garcia remained in contact with Ryder Cup captain Luke Donald which eventually led to him reconsidering his position.

Garcia’s decision to rejoin the tour followed a series of conversations with Donald, who will reprise his role as captain for the 2025 Ryder Cup in the USA. Garcia submitted his application to rejoin the DP World Tour for the 2025 season before the November 17 deadline. While he has paid the fines, he will still need to serve his suspension before being eligible to compete. Garcia will be classified as a Category One member which is reserved for winners of the Race to Dubai rankings and major champions from 2017 to 2025.

Donald confirmed their discussions about Sergio Garcia’s return and emphasized that if Garcia complies with all tour regulations, he will be eligible to participate in the 2025 Ryder Cup.
