Tiger Woods the former world number one will return to competitive golf next week at the PNC Championship in Orlando alongside his son Charlie. This will mark their fifth appearance at the annual 36-hole exhibition event. Woods, 49, had previously stated that he wasn’t yet “tournament sharp” following back surgery in September and had not played since the 2023 Open Championship in July where he missed the cut for the third consecutive major.
Despite his extended break from competitive play, Woods and Charlie will join other father-child pairs for the PNC Championship, a unique event that allows players to use golf carts. Last year, the Woods duo finished tied for fifth and in 2021, they placed second. The tournament features a mix of current and former professional golfers paired with their parents or children, competing in a friendly, yet competitive atmosphere.
In addition to Tiger Woods, other notable father-son teams include German golf legend Bernhard Langer and his son Jason, who will return to defend their 2023 title. Other teams include Vijay Singh of Fiji with his son Qass and American golfer Nelly Korda, who will play with her father Petr. The PNC Championship held at the Ritz-Carlton Golf Club in Florida, offers an opportunity for golf fans to see some of the sport’s biggest names return to action in a lighthearted, family-oriented setting.
Woods’ return to the course will be closely watched by fans and golf enthusiasts as his recovery from surgery continues and the PNC Championship will provide a first glimpse of his performance alongside Charlie on the competitive stage.
