Yuka Saso Makes History: Claims Second US Women's Open Title

Yuka Saso of Japan finished at -4 on the final leaderboard of the US Women’s Open, overcoming a three-shot deficit to claim her second title in the tournament and become the youngest player to do so. Saso’s remarkable performance included a run of four birdies in five holes on the back nine, securing victory by three strokes. She completed the round with a two-under-par 68 with her compatriot Hinako Shibuno finishing second.

Entering the final day, there was a three-way tie at the top between Minjee Lee of Australia, Andrea Lee of the United States and Wichanee Meechai of Thailand. However, Saso’s impressive display on the final day propelled her to the top spot. Yuka Saso, who switched her international allegiance from the Philippines to Japan in 2022, now boasts two LPGA Tour titles both earned at the US Women’s Open.

Her victory in 2021 marked her as the first Filipino player to win a major championship. Saso’s journey to this triumph included overcoming challenges such as a double bogey on the sixth hole on Sunday. The tournament also witnessed notable performances from American golfers Ally Ewing and Andrea Lee, who both finished in third place. Ewing surged through the field with a score of 66 while Andrea Lee struggled to a 75.

Saso’s achievement places her among elite company, as she joins Se Ri Pak and In Gee Chun as the only players to win major championships with their first two LPGA Tour titles.
