Islam Makhachev after successfully defending his lightweight title against Renato Moicano at UFC 311, set his sights on becoming a three-weight champion before he retires. The 33-year-old Russian has dominated the lightweight division, becoming the first fighter in UFC history to defend the lightweight title four times in a row. Makhachev has hinted at a move to featherweight where Ilia Topuria currently holds the title.

Following his victory, Makhachev expressed his ambition, stating, “I’m not leaving this sport without a second belt,” emphasizing his goal of becoming a double champion. He remained uncertain about the timing but is determined to keep fighting, winning and defending his belt until he gets the opportunity. Topuria, who remains undefeated, quickly challenged Makhachev, boasting that he could easily knock him out.

UFC president Dana White also weighed in, calling Makhachev the UFC’s pound-for-pound best fighter and suggesting he could go down as the greatest lightweight ever. Makhachev’s victory over Moicano set a new record for title defenses in the lightweight division, surpassing the previous record held by Khabib Nurmagomedov, BJ Penn and Benson Henderson. Makhachev, who has won 15 consecutive fights, is confident in his ability to claim a third title.

While the middleweight division is currently led by Dricus du Plessis and Sean Strickland, Islam Makhachev has expressed interest in moving up to 185 pounds. He declared, “I can be three division champion. Just give me the chance,” adding that he would eagerly accept a fight against Du Plessis if UFC president Dana White offered him the contract.
