Mia Brookes delivered another impressive performance in big air snowboarding on Sunda securing her second consecutive World Cup victory. The 17-year-old Briton had won the previous month’s event in Beijing and followed it up with another triumph in Klagenfurt, Austria. Brookes started strong, sitting third after her first jump. With her second and third runs, she managed to leapfrog Japan’s Mari Fukada into the top spot. Brookes, who made history as the youngest-ever snowboard world champion in slopestyle in 2023 secured the win with a stellar final run scoring 95.75.
This gave her a total score of 184.25, two points ahead of Fukada, who finished second with 182.25. Japan’s Momo Suzuki claimed third place with a score of 166.75. Reflecting on her victory, Mia Brookes told the BBC, “It was insane, I surprised myself.” She explained that she didn’t initially plan to perform a cab 1440 melon trick but decided to go for it in her final run. “I did the same thing in China,” she added, referring to her Beijing win. “I was happy with what I had already done, so I just took a swing and it paid off.”
Brookes’ success marked another milestone in her career, following her historic achievement in slopestyle and cemented her as a rising star in the snowboarding world. She admitted the back-to-back wins were hard to believe, saying, “It feels kind of unreal.” Looking ahead, Brookes now prepares for the next World Cup event in Kreischberg, Austria, next weekend where she will aim to continue her dominant form.
