Elinor Barker and Neah Evans secured a hard-fought silver in the madison at the Paris Olympics while Jack Carlin claimed an emotional bronze in the men’s sprint. Despite their world champion status, Barker and Evans were nine points behind the gold medalists, Italy, after a thrilling final sprint. The match concluded 1-1, leading to a penalty shootout where the Dutch team excelled.

This silver marks a redemption for Elinor Barker and Neah Evans, following their crash at January’s European Championships and Evans’ health struggles with Epstein-Barr virus. Carlin, who had been recovering from an ankle injury, missed the gold after losing to Harrie Lavreysen in the semi-finals. However, he outpaced Dutch rider Jeffrey Hoogland in a dramatic bronze medal race.

The final race saw a controversial restart after Carlin caused a collision but he managed to secure bronze, his fourth Olympic medal. This performance adds to Team GB’s tally, bringing their total to seven medals at the Saint-Quentin-en-Yvelines velodrome. It also means every British track cyclist has now earned a medal at the Paris Games. In other events, Emma Finucane and Sophie Capewell advanced to the individual sprint 1/8 finals.

Carlin back on the track will compete in the men’s keirin while Ethan Hayter and Ollie Wood will race in the men’s madison on the final days of competition.
