Mohamed ‘Kesho’ Ibrahim, the Egyptian Olympic wrestler has been arrested in Paris on allegations of sexual assault. The Paris prosecutor’s office reported that, on August 9 around 5 a.m., authorities took Kesho into custody outside the Oz Cafe. This arrest followed accusations that he inappropriately touched another patron’s buttocks at the cafe. Kesho, who won a bronze medal in Greco-Roman wrestling at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics, is confirmed as the individual arrested by the Egyptian Olympic Committee (EOC).

The EOC stated that it would investigate Kesho through its ethics committee. If the allegations prove true, the committee indicated that Kesho could face a lifetime ban from wrestling. The EOC emphasized that a substantiated case would result in a permanent suspension from both national and international competitions. The incident occurred after Kesho exited early from the Paris 2024 Games where he lost to Azerbaijan’s Hasrat Jafarov in the first round of the men’s 67kg Greco-Roman category.

He had received permission to leave the Egyptian team’s camp to attend the final of his weight category. However, he failed to return as expected and turned off his phone which led to additional complications. Consequently, the arrest has cast a shadow over Mohamed ‘Kesho’ Ibrahim career and the Egyptian delegation at the Olympics. The EOC’s response underscores the severity of the allegations and the potential consequences for Kesho if the claims are confirmed. The committee continues to investigate the situation to determine the appropriate course of action.
