Rachel ‘Raygun’ Gunn has announced that she will not compete again, following a wave of online abuse after her performances in Paris. The 37-year-old university lecturer, who went viral during the 2024 Summer Olympics with her unique style including kangaroo hops and snake-like movements was devastated by the harsh criticism she faced. Despite receiving praise from fans, including singer Adele, Raygun struggled with the negative online attention.
In a recent interview on Sydney’s 2DayFM Jimmy & Nath for Breakfast, Raygun confirmed that she would not be participating in the 2028 Olympics. “It’s been really upsetting,” she said, expressing her frustration over losing control of how others perceived her. While she remains the world’s No.1 female breakdancer, Raygun made it clear that she would no longer compete in Olympic events.
She added, “I still dance, but I don’t compete. I’m not going to compete anymore.” Raygun has also been vocal in defending herself against online trolls, stating that although her “whole world has changed,” she refuses to let the criticism affect her. Reflecting on her post-Olympics journey, she shared that the idea of continuing to compete in future battles now feels challenging.
She acknowledged the scrutiny surrounding her, noting that competing at the Olympics will never feel the same due to the constant public judgment. Raygun also dismissed rumors about joining reality TV, stressing her focus on dancing for fun rather than public approval.
Despite the conspiracy theories surrounding her Olympic appearances, Rachel ‘Raygun’ Gunn remains focused on the positive feedback from those inspired by her performances which continue to motivate her to stay positive and true to herself.
