Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone Smashes World Record for Olympic

Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone delivered a breathtaking performance to secure Olympic gold in the 400m hurdles in Paris, breaking her own world record with a time of 50.37 seconds. Entering the race as the defending champion and world record holder, she was the favorite in a much-anticipated showdown with Dutch star Femke Bol. However, Bol, who had been in impressive form, setting a new European record of 50.95 in July, couldn’t match McLaughlin-Levrone’s pace and finished third in 52.15 seconds.

US silver medallist Anna Cockrell ran a personal best of 51.87 to claim second place. Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone, who recently celebrated her 25th birthday, has now claimed her sixth global title, continuing to dominate the 400m hurdles. Alongside Bol, she has contributed to 17 of the 20 fastest times in the event’s history. After the race, she expressed her joy, highlighting the hard work she put in to achieve her gold medal and her excitement for the upcoming relay.

In other events, Arshad Nadeem made history by becoming Pakistan’s first Olympic gold medalist in athletics, setting a Games record with a 92.97m throw in the men’s javelin. Meanwhile, USA’s Grant Holloway claimed victory in the men’s 110m hurdles, upgrading his silver from Tokyo by beating fellow American Daniel Roberts. Another American, Tara Davis-Woodhall triumphed in the women’s long jump, adding to the USA’s impressive medal haul in track and field.
