Team GB Adds Four Medals on Day Nine of Paris 2024

Team GB added four more medals to their tally on day nine of the Paris 2024 Olympics. British shooter Amber Rutter won silver in the women’s skeet final after a controversial decision in a shoot-off. Tommy Fleetwood took silver in men’s golf, narrowly losing to US world number one Scottie Scheffler. Novak Djokovic finally claimed the Olympic gold medal he coveted in men’s tennis, completing the ‘Golden Slam.’ Great Britain also earned their fifth equestrian medal as Lottie Fry won bronze in the individual dressage, following team dressage bronze.

In gymnastics, Harry Hepworth made history as the first British man to win an Olympic vault medal with bronze while Jake Jarman, the reigning world and European vault champion, finished fourth. Dina Asher-Smith advanced to the 200m final, bouncing back from her early exit in the 100m, alongside teammates Daryll Neita and Bianca Williams. Keely Hodgkinson progressed to the women’s 800m final and both Josh Kerr and Neil Gourley moved on to the men’s 1500m final.

However, GB faced disappointment in men’s hockey, exiting the quarter-finals after a penalty shootout loss to 10-man India. US sprinter Noah Lyles won the men’s 100m gold by the narrowest of margins, edging out Jamaica’s Kishane Thompson in a photo finish. France set a new record for medals at a single Games, reaching their 44th with a bronze in men’s foil fencing surpassing their previous record of 43 from Beijing 2008.

Fleetwood’s silver in golf came after a tight final round while Djokovic’s victory in men’s tennis secured his long-awaited Olympic gold and completed the ‘Golden Slam.’ Rutter’s silver in skeet shooting followed a disputed decision with Chile’s Francisca Crovetto Chadid taking gold.
