Team GB Returns with 65 Medals from Paris 2024

Team GB athletes returned to the UK “exhausted but happy” after they secured 65 medals at the Paris 2024 Olympics. They arrived at London St Pancras station on Monday, where fans greeted them with cheers. Amber Rutter, who won silver in women’s skeet shooting, expressed her joy to the BBC, noting the crowd’s overwhelming support despite the athletes’ exhaustion.

Great Britain matched their 2012 London medal haul by winning 14 golds, 22 silvers, and 29 bronzes, placing seventh on the medal table. Although the medal count was impressive, they recorded their lowest gold tally and final position since the 2004 Athens Games. Gymnast Bryony Page claimed trampoline gold and returned with pride, completing her set of Olympic medals after winning silver in Rio 2016 and bronze in Tokyo 2021.

As one of the flag bearers for the closing ceremony, Page described her experience as surreal and stated she would forever cherish her status as an Olympic champion. Rutter, who recently became a mother, felt thrilled to bring home an Olympic medal, reflecting on the challenges she faced and the joy of reuniting with her family. Tom Daley, after winning his fifth Olympic medal in Paris, announced his retirement from diving.

He expressed contentment with his career and cherished the opportunity to compete in front of his family. UK Sport chair Katherine Grainger praised Team GB’s achievements in Paris, describing them as “extraordinary.” She emphasized the importance of creating a positive environment for athletes, steering away from the “winning at all costs” mentality.

Grainger acknowledged the strong competition from other nations like Australia, France and the Netherlands which contributed to Team GB lower position on the medal table but maintained that Great Britain’s success remains remarkable.
