Team USA advanced to the quarter-finals in their pursuit of a fifth consecutive Olympic gold medal, defeating South Sudan 103-86 at the Pierre Mauroy Stadium. The victory secured their spot in the next round and underscored their dominance as 16-time champions. The USA led throughout the game with Miami Heat’s Bam Adebayo leading the team with 18 points and seven rebounds.

South Sudan, ranked 33rd in the world, struggled against the top-ranked American team. Nuni Omot stood out for South Sudan, scoring a game-high 24 points. Despite the entertaining nature of the match, it lacked the drama of their earlier encounter, where the USA had to come from behind to secure a narrow 101-100 victory during an Olympic warm-up game in London.

This latest win highlighted the strength of Team USA which boasts 12 NBA All-Stars, four NBA MVPs and six NBA champions, collectively bringing a wealth of experience with 11 Olympic appearances and 10 gold medals. As they prepare for their final Group C qualifier against Puerto Rico on Saturday, the United States looks to maintain their momentum.

Meanwhile, South Sudan faces a must-win situation against Serbia to advance further in the tournament. With their strong roster and impressive performances, Team USA remains a formidable contender in their quest for Olympic glory, aiming to continue their winning streak and secure another gold medal.
