Tom Daley Ends Diving Career After Paris Games

Tom Daley, a five-time Olympic medalist has officially announced his retirement from diving at the age of 30. Daley, who first competed in the Olympics at just 14 during the 2008 Beijing Games has had a storied career, winning medals across five Games and becoming Team GB’s most decorated diver in Olympic history. Daley completed his impressive set of Olympic medals by winning silver alongside Noah Williams in the men’s synchronised 10m platform event at the 2024 Paris Games.

This achievement gave him one of each Olympic medal—bronze in the 10m platform at London 2012 and Tokyo 2021, bronze in the men’s synchronised 10m platform at Rio 2016, gold in the synchronised 10m platform with Matty Lee at Tokyo 2021 and finally, silver in Paris. After fulfilling his dream of winning Olympic gold in Tokyo, Daley had initially stepped away from the sport.

However, he was inspired to make a comeback for the Paris Games after his six-year-old son Robbie expressed a desire to see him compete at an Olympics. Daley returned to the pool, motivated by the chance to perform in front of his family including his husband Dustin Lance Black, Robbie and their youngest son Phoenix, who were all present as he claimed silver in Paris.

Reflecting on his decision to retire, Tom Daley shared that he had made up his mind before the Paris Games, knowing it would be his last Olympic appearance. He described the moment as emotional, especially during his final dive, but felt it was the right time to step away from the sport. Now, Daley looks forward to spending more time with his family and enjoying a sense of normalcy after an illustrious career.
