Faye Rogers Edges Warrington for Gold in Butterfly Final

Faye Rogers delivered Great Britain’s 30th gold medal on day six of the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games, narrowly beating her team-mate Callie-Ann Warrington in the women’s S10 100m butterfly final. Both swimmers earned their first Paralympic medals with Faye Rogers, 21, securing the gold with a time of 1:05.84. Warrington finished close behind with a personal best of 1:06.41, claiming silver.

Great Britain secured six medals in total on Tuesday. Sammi Kinghorn won her second silver of the Games in the women’s T54 1500m, while wheelchair fencer Piers Gilliver took silver in the men’s sabre A category. Natasha Baker and Georgia Wilson added bronze medals in the Para-equestrian individual grade III and II events, respectively.

In other events, British tennis stars Alfie Hewett and Gordon Reid advanced to the men’s wheelchair doubles semi-finals and Para-table tennis player Will Bayley reached the men’s MS7 singles semi-finals. Great Britain’s men’s wheelchair basketball team defeated Australia to advance to the semi-finals against Germany. Additionally, Zac Shaw was awarded a bronze medal in the men’s T12 100m after Turkey’s Serkan Yildirim was disqualified.

Sammi Kinghorn, who previously finished second in the women’s T54 1500m is targeting a treble on Wednesday, competing in the T53 100m final. Meanwhile, Piers Gilliver a five-time Paralympic medallist expressed disappointment after winning silver in the men’s sabre A event, but he remains focused on defending his epee title. Natasha Baker, returning to competition after giving birth in 2023, increased her Paralympic medal tally to nine.

Georgia Wilson also secured a bronze in the grade II competition. Great Britain has now accumulated 61 medals including 30 golds, second only to China.
