Paddy Pimblett Criticizes Backlash to His Mental Health Advocacy

Paddy Pimblett has criticized some of the reactions to his calls for men to discuss their mental health, describing them as “disgusting.” The 29-year-old, who recently had a challenging training camp sought help which significantly transformed his mindset. Pimblet, from Liverpool is preparing for a fight against American lightweight Bobby Green at UFC 304 in Manchester.

He expressed frustration over accusations that his mental health advocacy is a PR stunt, emphasizing that he has personal experience with mental health struggles and has lost friends to suicide. Furthermore, Paddy Pimblett shared that his coach, Paul Rimmer provided crucial support during a rough patch, leading to a more successful training camp. Thanks to therapy and support from loved ones, he now feels ready for his upcoming fight.

In a similar vein, British UFC interim heavyweight champion Tom Aspinall has revealed he deleted social media to improve his mental health. Aspinall, who will defend his title against Curtis Blaydes at UFC 304, admitted that his social media use had become addictive and negatively impacted his well-being. Consequently, he recommended that those feeling overwhelmed or anxious consider removing social media apps, as it helped him regain a clearer sense of self.

Additionally, Aspinall noted that he now prefers to post through a team member and does not plan to reinstall social media apps on his phone full-time. Both Pimblett and Aspinall’s experiences underscore the significant impact of mental health and social media on their lives and careers.
