Adam Jones Joins Wales Coaching Staff for Six Nations

Adam Jones, the Welsh rugby cult hero has joined Warren Gatland’s coaching team as a scrum consultant for the upcoming Six Nations. The 43-year-old former Wales prop, who has been on secondment from his club, Harlequins, started working with the Welsh squad this week ahead of their challenging opener against France. Jones, who earned 95 caps for Wales and enjoyed a successful career with Ospreys and Cardiff is keen to bring a fresh voice and his extensive experience to the struggling Welsh team.

Having worked with top players like Joe Marler and Kyle Sinckler at Harlequins, he is looking forward to helping Wales bounce back from a 12-match losing streak. Jones expressed pride in the Welsh players’ hard work and desire to succeed despite recent setbacks. Reflecting on his return, Jones admitted it felt like the first day back at school, meeting many new players. He also mentioned that he has changed over his nine years in England becoming more outgoing.

Though his role is temporary, he hopes to continue working at the international level in the future. Jones also addressed past tensions with Gatland, acknowledging their issues after his final Test match but emphasizing that they had since reconciled. He credits Gatland for his success as a player and remains supportive of the coach especially in light of the pressure he faces.

Looking ahead to the Six Nations, Adam Jones is determined to make an impact, particularly against France, whose dominant scrum poses a major challenge. He aims to help Wales cope with the powerful French set-piece and put up a strong fight, aiming to silence the French crowd early on in the match.
